Ongoing Projects and Campaigns

House Representation
Our proposal for each collective house in the Boston-area:
Make participation in the Collective House Assembly a house ‘job’ – give someone chore hours for representing and reporting back to your house each month.

Co-op Start-up Fund
Goal:
We propose co-ops add $5 to each resident’s monthly rent to be collected into a fund managed at the Cooperative Fund of New England, to be used as grants or revolving loans to help new co-ops purchase properties or pay initial rental fees, to support housing justice and longerm cooperative living in the Boston area.

We want to develop a fund to support cooperative living in Boston, to make collectives an affordable option for a wide range of the Boston community, including to people in communities historically marginalized from home ownership in the US. We are working alongside and in support of existing housing justice groups in Boston to develop this project.

Weekly Workshop Series
Check out the calendar at Meetup.BostonCoops.org to a co-op calendar for the Boston area, with our monthly assemblies, plus meetings, workshops, skillshares, gatherings, festivals, and more.  We’re hoping to have a skillshare hosted by co-op houses around the Boston-area every single week of 2012!

Thinking of hosting or facilitating a workshop of interest to the cooperating community? Throw it up on the calendar! We ask that you follow these guidelines, please:

  • The workshops will be open to the general public (not just co-opers)
  • At each workshop, the hosting house should give a 5-10 minute spiel or tour or something to introduce the workshop series, the Collective Housing Assembly, and show off their co-op house.
  • Anyone can request a workshop topic or even propose to facilitate a workshop without a space. Meetup.com allows us to crowd-source our scheduling– someone else can fill in the blanks in your calendar proposal, by offering their house as a location or volunteering to teach on a requested subject.
