Every second Saturday from noon to 2pm we meet to hash out ideas and work on projects to support collective living in the Boston area. We loosely organize each gathering around a theme.
Check out the notes from past Assemblies:
- February 2012 – Housing Justice w/ City Life
- January 2012 – Food Sovereignty
- December 2011 – 2012 Year of the Co-op
- November 2011 – Housing Rights
- October 2011 – Resource Sharing
- The Bash (the party that started it all)

Hello:
I’m a 30-something old straight, drug-free guy from Mississippi,
y’all, and I’ve been living in Boston for over 10 years now. I was
away in the Caribbeans since last August, and I’ll be returning in
about a week, on/around the 17th.
So why do I want to live with high-minded, idealistic, and
counter-culture people?
Because I value these attributes just like you. While I was in the
Caribbeans, I’d always feed people and refer to that as “our Marxist
Meal Plan”. This means that our dinner time, everything is shareable, and we’ll all selflessly make sure that this camraderie-raising event is sustainable.
I am part of a meditation center in Somerville, Sikh
Sangeet Society on Windsor Street, that cooks
for hundreds of people every Sundays, and I help them out in the
kitchen and in the serving of vegetarian food. As a guitarist and
former bassist, I can promise you that, in addition to great gourmet
food which I can cook and funny anecdotes, I’ll have a lot of creative
insights to share with you. Oh, and I give great haircuts and clean
bathrooms meticulously well.
So let me stop espousing myself before I sound like the Sham-Wow guy.
Regards,
Hari Pillai

Hi Hari,
Your best bet for finding co-op housing in Boston is to read through the recent messages on the following e-mail lists, where houses post openings. You can send a post to a list explaining who you are and what you want in a house, as well, and also search Craigslist for “co-op”. Come to a monthly meeting of the Boston Collective House Assembly or one of our events if you want to meet co-opers in person!
Check out our Wiki page on How to Join an Existing Co-op for info on finding a collective house in Boston!
